Recent Observations (Part 34,098)
(a) Singaporeans in general do not know how to argue without (i) sounding crass, (ii) degenerating into a slugfest (virtual or otherwise) and (iii) thumping their chests on seemingly unrelated qualifications on why their view is the supreme one.
(b) Singaporeans in general have a little problem understanding the concept of agreeing to disagree. They are forever trying to shove their beliefs (or disbeliefs) down the throats of others.
(c) In the place of those television debate shows involving students secondary schools or junior colleges (can anyone still remember the little jingle at the start of these shows), we now have mindless reality television programmes and other copycat, dumbed-down local time-wasters. And we wonder why we do not know how to put forward our arguments properly anymore. "Boss, I scared to do presentation leh..."
(d) We need the Courtesy Lion back desperately. At least, people will remember the friendly Lion and remind themselves that they should at least be courteous for one month out of the twelve. The Singapore Kindness Movement, which replaced the much beloved Lion, despite so much branding and publicity, has not been effective enough to persuade Singaporeans to be kinder or more gracious.
(e) Conferred “venerability” may not be the same as earned “venerability”. Neither is the former greater than the latter, although the masses (or seemingly lemmings) may think otherwise.
(f) If the race for the first nation to send a man to land on the Moon can be analogized in the context of our local blogging scene, then perhaps people from the mythical land of Timbucktoothed can lay claim to being the first country on Earth to build a colony on the Moon. What they need to substantiate the claim will be at least a big-enough loudhailer to drown out the dissenting and disagreeing noises. Logic? What’s that?

I've long since given up arguing with others, especially when it comes to things going about in the local blogosphere cos people just refuse to see another person's POV and are too defensive.
